Personal Statement

I am a Professor of Sociology in the University of Lagos, Nigeria with expertise in Social Gerontology and Development Studies. I am passionate about teaching and advancing ageing research, development and sustainable livelihood strategies. My research activities focus on promoting older persons’ rights and well-being through recommendations that emphasize the importance of education, training and lifelong learning which can enhance healthy ageing, independence, autonomy and empowerment of older persons. I have served as a dedicated resource person/facilitator for International Institute on Ageing UN Malta’s annual in-situ-training programme in Ageing Policy formulation, Planning and Implementation in Nigeria in collaboration with the Dave Omokaro Foundation. As a founding member of Stakeholder Group on Ageing Africa, I am a member of the Civil Society Engagement Mechanism Group on SDGs at the African Regional Forum. I have used these platforms to promote healthy ageing and lifelong learning among older persons and stakeholders in Africa and beyond. I am committed to promoting the advancement of the rights of older persons through innovative research, collaboration and evidence-based advocacy.
