Personal Statement
I am Dr. Omonigho Simon Umukoro, a lecturer in the Department of Psychology at the University of Lagos, Nigeria. I hold a PhD in Psychology from the University of Ibadan, and my academic journey has been strengthened by a strong commitment to advancing knowledge and practice in the fields of industrial, organizational, and social psychology. Over the years, I have been privileged to contribute to the growing body of psychological research through publications in peer-reviewed journals and book chapters. My research interests are deeply rooted in understanding human behavior in workplace and societal contexts, and I continue to explore these areas with a focus on practical and impactful outcomes. Beyond research, I have actively sought opportunities for growth and collaboration through professional development programs. Notable among these are the ISSBD intervention workshop in Lisbon, Portugal, and the University of London and Birkbeck’s course on managing people at work. These experiences have enriched my academic perspective and enhanced my teaching and mentoring capabilities. In 2023, I was honored to be awarded the ARUA-Carnegie Postdoctoral Fellowship at the ARUA Centre of Excellence in Notions of Identity, hosted by Makerere University in Kampala, Uganda; an acknowledgment of my contributions to academic scholarship. I am an active member of several professional associations, including the Nigerian Psychological Association (NPA), Nigerian Association for Industrial and Organizational Psychologists (NAIOP), American Psychological Association (APA), and the International Society for the Study of Behavioural Development (ISSBD). These affiliations have provided valuable platforms for interdisciplinary exchange and continuous professional engagement. My goal remains to contribute meaningfully to the understanding and application of psychology in Africa and beyond, through research, teaching, and collaboration
